Outdoor Directional Audio Systems Help Xi'an Yucai Middle School Create a Quieter Campus

Overview

With more than 3,000 students, Xi'an Yucai Middle School relies on its playground audio system for daily morning exercises, physical education classes, school assemblies, and large-scale events.

However, the playground is located directly next to a residential neighborhood, separated by only a wall. Sound from the traditional broadcasting system frequently spilled beyond the school grounds, leading to complaints from nearby residents.

Lowering the broadcast volume made announcements difficult for students to hear, while conventional soundproofing measures offered limited results. The school needed an audio solution that could maintain clear sound coverage across the playground while reducing noise impact on the surrounding community.

The Solution

After a two-month evaluation of different solutions, the school selected Audfly's Outdoor Directional Audio System to address the playground noise issue.

Before installation, the Audfly team conducted an on-site assessment of the playground layout, surrounding residential buildings, speaker positions, and sound coverage requirements. Based on the site conditions, the team designed a customized directional speaker array to deliver sound across the designated playground area.

The system uses directional sound technology to focus broadcast audio toward the playground, helping control sound propagation beyond its boundaries. The installation was completed without disrupting the existing playground facilities, with setup and commissioning finished in just three days.

During commissioning, the team also carried out multiple listening tests at nearby residential buildings, fine-tuning speaker angles and volume levels based on on-site feedback.

The Results

Clear Audio Coverage Across the Playground: Broadcast announcements and exercise instructions can be clearly heard throughout the playground.

Reduced Noise Impact on Surrounding Areas: Directional sound helps limit audio spill beyond the playground boundary, reducing disturbance to nearby residents.

Customized Acoustic Coverage: The speaker array was configured according to the playground layout and surrounding environment.

Fast and Non-Disruptive Installation: The system was installed and commissioned in three days without damaging existing playground facilities.

Following installation, the school conducted on-site acceptance tests. The results confirmed clear broadcast coverage across the playground, with sound levels decreasing noticeably beyond the designated coverage area.
