Ultrasonic directive speakers, also commonly referred to as directional speakers, are unique speakers that use ultrasonic waves to reproduce sound. Common speakers on the market cannot achieve this effect because sound at audible frequencies cannot be focused into a narrow beam.
These unique loudspeakers function by incorporating parametric arrays, a nonlinear transformation mechanism. Parametric arrays do not produce sound directly, but reproduce sound from ultrasound. Directional speakers produce ultrasonic waves (high-frequency sounds) modulated with audio signals, and when these waves encounter obstacles, they are demodulated into audible sounds.
